Inside Pitch Virtual Edition | Beethoven String Trios: Essays and Ambitions
Join us on Sunday afternoon, January 4, 2026, as we welcome back Dr. Paul Berry for a special Inside Pitch Virtual Edition! This will be a great addition to our Beethoven String Trios Weekend, providing context and background for the performances.
Beethoven left his native Bonn for Vienna in 1792, eager to prove himself among musicians in the cosmopolitan capital where Mozart had recently died, and where Haydn was universally acknowledged as the greatest living composer. The string trio was an ideal proving ground for the young newcomer: small, seemingly unassuming, yet intricately demanding for players and composer alike. By turns charming and formidably difficult, Beethoven’s five trios are at once an evening’s entertainment and a lasting testament to the craft and prodigious ambition of the last and greatest master of the Viennese classical style.
